Uniform identification

My grandpa in WW1, possibly Pioneer Corps but no proof.


Can anyone identify the uniform?

Hi wizz,

He was John Robert Barham, born 1880 in London. By WW1 he was married with 2 children (3 more arrived during the war years).   Family legend is that he was not in the Army for very long!

Hi nanny Jan,

there is only one John R. Barham (no one with the name of John Robert) on the TNA site with regards to the 1st ww campaign medals. He is noted as being a Private in the Labour Corps (which would fit in with your Pioneer Corps idea) Army Service number 436618. You can down load an image of the medal card for John R. Barham at a cost of £3.50. Go to the National Archives site and then go into ww1 campaign medals area put his name into the search area's and also the army number given above and the page relating to his card image will appear follow the directions for downloading the card and you will be able to obtain it. however saying all that they will not be anything on there except what medals he was awarded. There will be no dates of birth or any other information relating to his family on the image.
