Browitt Wedding

I got the Birth certificate for Ruth Browitt (who was my friends Grandmother) on it her Father is Henry Browitt and Mother is down as Alice Browitt formerly Derbyshire.

When I was on The Common Room before someone found a marriage for Henry Bramett/Bramitt and Alice Darby in Sep Q 1874 at Wigan.

We assumed the name Browitt had been either spelt wrong or mistranscribed. Now it looks as if this isn't the marriage or is it.

Henry Browitt B c1853 Chesterfield Derbyshire
Alice Browitt B c1856 Wigan

Their first child was born in 1876 in Wigan.

I cannot find a marriage for Henry Browitt and Alice Derbyshire. Please can someone have a look for me.

I am wondering if the marriage that was found is right as by this birth certificate Alice could not read or write.

I have searched the marriage index from 1869 to 1880 for Henry Browitt but there are none.

The only Browitt in Wigan I could find was a Mary Browitt July/Sept qtr 1875.

I think the Rootschatter who found the mistranscribed entry is possibly right and that could be the marriage.  I think the only way to be sure, is for your friend to splash out £7 and send for the certificate which hopefully will have the correct spellings on it.

Yes I have searched I even yesterday just put in to Ancestry 1875 +- 5 years and wigan, no names. Then I looked at every Henry and every Alice and the only one that came anywhere close was that one.
