CHANDLER 1871 census - Bristol
« on: Sunday 13 August 06 18:36 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Can I be really cheeky and ask if anyone would be willing to look for the following family on the 1871 census, please?

James Samson Chandler, HEAD, born 1838-ish
Matilda Chandler (formerly Roe), WIFE, born 1843-ish

I don't expect there to be any children, but there might be a very young Matilda, born 1871.

They were married in 1870 (Clifton, 6a, p316).

I'd love to find out more about this family.

Interestingly, it seems that two Barrington brothers married two Chandler sisters (little Matilda and the next child, Florence). :)

With many thanks in advance,
Vicky

Hello again, Scroppers! :)

I've found their marriage certificate (1870), James Samson Chandler's death certificate (1895) and see that Matilda was a 'General Shop Keeper' in Bristol in 1901 (age 58).

The two eldest Chandler daughters, Matilda and Florence, are of most interest to me as they married brothers Frederick Jonah Barrington and Robert James Barrington in 1896 and 1897 respectively.

That said, it's always nice to find out as much about every name as possible.

There's also a younger sister called Rosina Chandler. I'd never heard of the name 'Rosina' before, but my very long list of possible BMD Barringtons has a 'Rosina Barrington', so I wonder if there's a connection there.

So many possibilities... I wish that 1911 census would hurry up!

Thanks again for looking and thank you too, Mobo. I really appreciate your time. :)

All the best,
Vicky

Thank you! I'm off on holiday soon, so I cancelled my Ancestry membership for this month (they robbed me of a day's access, too - grrrr!), but, from this weekend alone, I have a list of names to look up just as soon as I get back and renew it.

The same wishes for you and your tree. :)
