1851 Census Peter EDE

I am looking for the 1851 census record of a Peter EDE and his wife Sarah. I believe Peter was born around 1780-85 in Sussex but I'm not certain where.

I know that they had sons William, Walter, and a daughter Matilda

Any help would be much appreciated

Have you got them in 1841. There is a family which fits but Peter is already 65 wife Sarah is 45

Hi Tricia.

I was given the family in the 1841 census as part of an earlier request for my own EDE family some months ago. Since that time I've been trying to make a connection with this Peter who I believe died in 1857. This is why I have requested for the 1851 census hoping to establish where Peter was born.

Any help locating them greatly appreciated.

Hi again!

Seems that Peter EDE isn't to be found in the UK in 1851!!! He was trekking across the States towards California!!!

Amazing how a different approach to searching with Google can suddenly throw up a whole lot of new answers after weeks of getting no where.

Here's what I found via Google and a whole Yahoo Group has been dedicated to him and his descendants when it's his ancestors and place of birth that interests me.

"Peter Ede came to the U.S. from England in 1843, stayed in Wisconsin around Vernon Township, Waukesha County, before he and his wife, Sarah Willet, moved west to live in Sierra Valley, Plumas County, California.

Peter & Sarah's children include; William, Hampton, Abraham, Walter and Stephen (known as The Five Ede Brothers), girls Matilda, Lucy and Amelia, (lucy & amelia might have been from a previous marriage)"

Sorry for the bother but if anyone can give me any further information on this PETER EDE and where he was from I should be very grateful.

Ha, ha - so that's why I couldn't see him in 1851!!

Do you have any of the dates for those children - that is, if you are expecting them to be in England.

Hi Tricia.

Well, but for a swollen left foot and ankle. How about yourself?

I have the birth dates for the children he mentions from an earlier 1841 census look up last May but not the Amelia and Lucie he mentions.

They were in Keymer in Sussex which my 3 x gr grandparents were found. There were other EDE children together with a Mary EDE aged 29 in that census.

Is the any chance of a look up in Keymer ( 1111/11/...) for any EDE's in 1851 census to see if any remained there.

Don't know if Ancestry are on a go slow or my computer but it has taken ages trawling through the 55 images they have for Keymer in 1851. There isn't a single Ede in the place!

There is a David Ede, born Surrey age 40 living in Dorking but appears to be unmarried and is living in the household of a Margaret Ripsher age 40, Lucy Watson age 30, Eliza (?) age 30 and Maria Gumble age 30
