Marriage Index Milton Abbas 1792
« on: Monday 14 August 06 00:02 BST (UK) »
HI folks

According to an LDS member on the IGI, Richard VINCENT married Dinah STICKLAND at Milton Abbas on 18 Dec 1792. I cannot check this entry because the 1792 marriages are not available via the internet. Is anyone able to check this for me? I have been burnt by LDS members wishful thinking in the past and now check everything they enter for myself. Thanks

This is on the Dorset OPC site

Richard VINCENT & Dinah STICKLAND married 18-Dec 1792 by licence
This transcription, has been taken from a copy of Phillimore's Marriage Registers, published in 1909.
Milton Abbey Parish Marriage Records 1559 - 1812

The Dorset OPC site has much useful information if you have ancestors from Dorset

PS With submitted IGI entries, I find they are more likely to be correct if they have an exact date - this tends to mean a register or transcript has been sighted. Where it says abt. 1790 or similar, it is often filling in a blank space with an idea  :) .

Thanks Trish, Your'e an Angel. Never thought of using the OPC. This family is my first foray into Dorset so I may have to use it more often. Many thanks.

Keep going back to the IGI - it is a work in progress and I have recently found entries for a number of my Dorset folk who weren't there before. Meanwhile the OPC site for Dorset is excellent - my only complaint (very minor) would be that most transcripts are from the BTs. For my families, I'm sure the Bishop received a few errors in his transcripts  ;D  Unfortunately, the LDS only seem to have BTs as well, so somehow I need to get to the Dorset Records Office  :(  :(
