Hi
There is another possible candidate, but no John Cadvan Davies.

RG9/4260/f11/p18 Address Allt, all surnames Davies

David, h, m, 52, farmer 39 acres emp 1, MGY Llangadfan
Jane, w, m, 51, MGY Garbeitho
David, s, u, wheelwright, MGY Garbeitho
John, s, u, 14, scholar, MGY Llangadfan

Could John have adopted the name Cadvan when he became a Rev?   Derived from Llangadfan - the church of Cadvan (Welsh Cadfan).   Cadvan was a King of Gwynedd 6th/7th Century.

Cheers Dave

Hello
I have found the Rev. & family in 1891 (Liverpool) & 1901 (Caernarfon), as follows:-

1891, living at 21 Gt. Mersey St., Kirkdale, Liverpool
John C. Davies (43) Wesleyan Minister,  b. Llangadfan, Mgy
Mary A. Davies (29) Wife, b. Leeswood, Flints
M.J.B. Davies (13) Dau.,  b. Cefnmawr, Denbs.
M.C. Davies (12) Dau.,  b.        do.
Ada H. Davies (6) Dau.,   b. Dolgelly, Mer.
M.O. Davies (5) Dau., b.          do

1901, living at Bathafarn House, Llanbeblig, Caerns.
John Cadvan Davies (54) Wesleyan Minister, b. Llangadfan
Mary A. Davies (34??) Wife, b. Coedllai, Flints.
Buddug Davies (23)  Dau.,  b. Cefnmawr
Morfudd Davies (22) Dau.,  b.     do
Ada H. Davies (16) Dau.,    b. Dolgelly
Olwen Davies (15) Dau.,    b.     do

North Wales BMD shows the following birth registrations in respect of the 2 younger children:
Ada Hefin Davies b. 1884   and    Margaret Olwen Davies b. 1885
both registered at Barmouth, sub district to Dolgellau

I have not been able to find the family in 1881, thus far.
However, in 1871,
Living at Prince of Wales Terrace, Penygroes, Llanllyfni, Caerns.
John Davies (24) Lodger, Wesleyan Minister, b. Llangadfan

There is something odd about the wife's (Mary A Davies) age, particularly in the 1901 census when she would obviously not be the mother of the 2 elder children. Possibly an error, as the 1891 census would be just about feasible.
On the other hand, perhaps she is a second wife.

Best wishses
Stan

Just had another look at the 1901 image and Mary's age is in fact 39, which makes more sense. Sorry about that.

Cadvan was a well known Wesleyan minister, hymn writer and Eisteddfod poet (as Cadfan) ; he was Archdruid in 1923. There is an entry in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, online on the National Library of Wales site. His parents are given there as David and Jane. His autobiography is in Welsh. As a Wesleyan minister at that time he changed circuits every three years.
