Dumb question!!
« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 11:54 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I apologise for my ignorance but I have a marriage record in Colchester in 1902 where the Bridegroom's residence is listed as "Barracks" (occupation: Tin Smith)

Was there an Army barracks (or similar) there at that time and would that mean that he was a soldier? (but then his occupation should have been Soldier??)

His name is James MATHER born 1876 Mold/Holywell Wales.

As I can't find him on the 1901 census, I am thinking that he may have been overseas at the time??
I have no idea just how/why he went from Holywell in 1891 to end up in Colchester 11 years later!!

Any ideas or suggestions please

Thanks
Di

Hiya Keith,

Long time no speak  ;)

Thanks for the link - I'll look into it.

Interestingly, the bride's address was "Military Road" - kinda accounts for how they met   :D

Much appreciated
Di

PS - How's EJD? - still hiding?

Hi Di,

Don't forget the army employed craftsmen etc to work at the barracks - I have one who was a carpenter and another worked with horses.

In the army I presume you don't have much choice of where you are billeted - but as Liverpool Annie knows I am a bit thin on army knowledge!!  ;D ;D

Cheers

Keith.

P.S. EJD is STILL hiding!  >:( >:(
PPS - Love you little photo  8)
