« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 19:34 BST (UK) »
At the moment I am looking for relatives of my husband

Margaret ( hope I the spelling is right ) Karlscind

Margaret was my mother in laws cousin and they wrote to each other When I first entered the family

Sadly both are away now and my husband and his sister and brother wandered if anyone related to them still lived in America

Margaret was also the name of my mother in law

She was Margaret Mitchell and came from Brechin Scotland

Her parents were George and Margaret (nee Lyall ) Mitchell

We believe Margaret Karlscind lived in Chicargo

Looking for help

Hi Elizabeth

If you pronounce the "cind" with a hard c, as in "car", I'd say it should be spelled KARLSKIND and would be Germanic in origin?

This may well be her in a two headed dwelling, with her husband, and living with her in-laws:

1920 - Chicago  - Ward 30, Cook Cty( Chicago), Illinois State
729 - 54 th Place
Head: Charles KARLSKIND 61, b Alsace-Lorraine (France), Speaks French, parents French. Immigrated 1887, naturalised in 1893, Meat Salesman, own Home (Freehold).
Wife: Briget KARLSKIND 61, b Ireland, parents Ireland. immigrated 1887, naturalised 1893,
Son: Micheal KARLSKIND 27, single, b Illinois, father: b Alsace-Lorraine (french), mother: b Ireland, Cattleman - Stckyards.
Dau: Madeleine KARLSKIND 25, single, b Illinois, father: b Alsace-Lorraine (french), mother: b Ireland, Stenographer - Packing Firm.
Dau: Maria KARLSKIND 23, single, b Illinois, father: b Alsace-Lorraine (french), mother: b Ireland, Stenographer - Lumber Firm.

And renting rooms in his parents home:
Head: Charles KARLSKIND 35 b Illinois, Meat Salesman,  father: b Alsace-Lorraine (french), mother: b Ireland, home is rented.
Wife: Margaret KARLSKIND 32, b Illinois, parents Scotland
Son: Raymond KARLSKIND 11, b Illinois.

Hi Aspin

Sorry you lost me there  ??? - I think all the Census I sent you are connected  - either bloodline or in-law -  to your Margaret KARLESKIND. She was born in Illinois, it says so on the 1900 and 1910 Census  where she appears with her Scots born  LYALL parents (in 1910 as a married woman).

She married an Illinois born man Charles  C.  KARLESKIND Jnr whose father Charles Snr was born Alsace-Lorraine France  and whose mother was Bridget.

The Obituary for your Margaret's husband Charles in 1966 confirms 1) Margaret's maiden name LYALL,  and 2) the names of his 3 siblings, Michael Madeline & Marie who also appear on  the 1920 Census - with your Margaret & Charles who are renting rooms in the same house as his parents Charles & Bridget, & siblings Michael, Madeleine and Maria.

I am in NZ - just across the ditch:-) Never heard of Amberley - Is't that funny, you have the cross sticth while I'm writing to you!  Though I came across an AMBLEY the other day in the UK I think!

Cheers  ;D
