Hi Shaz.
There is a John Johnson birth in 1799 on the IGI who married a Ruth Downam in 1820 in Saffron Walden.
It does not give parents names though, but on www.1841essex.com  there is a marriage in 1789 in Debden between Thomas Johnson & Elizabeth Bass.
There is also an entry on www.curiousfox.org.uk
Is this your post or is it a relation?

Hope this will be of help.

   Malcolm.

Thanks Malcolm,

Thomas and Elizabeth are probably John Johnson's parents, although he doesn't seem to have named a son after his father (Thomas).

The Johnsons are not my direct line, but may prove to be related.  I have Bradford and Overill lines from Saffron Walden/Debden.

Thanks for your help . . . and I'll make a note of the links (much appreciated).
