Yes it is an excellent site isn't it. :)

David Cheek in Australia transcribed most of those records. The site has been up for about 5 years now.  He was looking for Pring and Cheek families.

I have a number of families from Milverton - Hancock and Busson mostly plus my Burrows who were removed to Devon in 1824. :(  If you have any connection to the Hancock family,  you're welcome to PM me as I have a somewhat extensive family tree for them. :)

Hiya Burrow Digger

I do have a Francis Chorley b 1782 marrying a James Hancock (DOB unknown @ moment)  on 26.12.1827. I believe Francis already had two illigitimate children Hannah b 1815 and Sarah b 1813 (subject to further checking) so I will check out your website

And yes David did a brilliant job!

well there is one possible James Hancock in my tree . :)

James bn 1895, son of Aaron and Sarah Hancock.
He had 2 sisters - Miriam and Amy.
Amy Hancock bn 1892 was my 3x gt grandmother

I am still looking for that "extensive" family tree I was given. Need to find out how many James's there are in the family.

Have checked Rootsweb. David Cheek has put up a lot of his family tree from Milverton there - including Hancocks.
It says the James Hancock who married Fanny Chorley was born in 1796 and baptised in 1797. He was a weaver (my Hancocks were also weavers) but his parents are not named. It might still be my James. Check out the link.

I have checked my sources - still cant find the family tree I am sure I have. But I have found my Hancocks from the Neville Campbell Index.

Dr Neville Campbell worked on a transcript for BMDs covering 153 parishes in Somerset from 1538 to 1900. This index can be seen at the Somerset Record Office in Taunton.

It looks like James Hancock born in 1796, and baptised in 1797 was possibly the son of John Hancock and Mary with siblings Sarah bapt 1793, another Sarah baptised in 1797,  Betty bapt 1800,  Ann & Mary bapt in 1804 and John bapt in 1806.

And the Children of James & Fanny Hancock were baptised as follows.
James 1826, Joseph 1830, Sarah 1834, Fanny 1837, Elizabeth 1841, Mary 1844

Hope this helps. :)

And while I was typing out the Campbell Index post, my PC was searching for that family tree I am sure I had.  And now its found. :)

I need to change the folder name - listing it under my maiden name is NOT a good aid to finding it. LOL

No mention of Fanny Chorley married to James Hancock in my tree. Cant find the right John & Mary family either. They must be descended fom someone other than my Edward & Elizabeth Hancock (married 1682).

Thanx for the information Burrow Digger

I'm not sure about the children though because my Fanny was b 1782 which would have made her 62 when the youngest was born!

Will need to do some more research

You mentioned earlier that Frances Chorley was born in 1782 amd married James in 1827 - that makes her 45 when they were married. Does that seem right?

I took another look at those Parish records.
There is a Fanny Chorley baptised in September 1807.
CHORLEY Fanny  (bapt) 13 Sep 1807 (daughter of) William (and) Elizabeth
Could this be your Fanny?
Because if she was born on or before 1807, and married in 1827 - the dates fit better.
Now having 6 kids over 20 years doesn't seem so bad - she would have been roughly 37 when the youngest was born.

Heck I didn't have my first child until I was 38!!  :)
