Family Tree Maker Help please

I have the PAF programme for all my notes but I have now treated myself to Family tree maker 6.
Please can I have some help I have put the disc in and it has come up on my desktop but HOW do I get my information from PAF onto Family tree Maker, I can't type all my information by hand.

Hi Sue - does PAF have a feature to create a GEDCOM file (export perhaps) ?

 - if so, do that, give it a memorable name in a relevant folder and then IMPORT it into FTM. Bingo, everything you've had in PAF will now be viewable - and FTM automatically makes a Backup copy for you.

The FTM 'File' Menu drop-down will show you the options I think - if not, it has an extebnsive set of Help notes.

Hope this helps, otherwise happy to take you thru it step by step ...

Oh eck it does have export I clicked that and it gave me a list of names where to export it one of them was other gedcom I clicked that then didn't know what to do think I need help it says save in at the top I don't know where to save it do I save it into my documents then go to family tree maker and click inport and then do I put documents where this is to be found

Hi Sue

I have FTM v5 so not sure if its the same. You are right in saving your Gedcom either in your documents or create a new folder.
In FTMv5 there is no import on the file menu, but the following steps.

File / Open

Open Family File box comes up

Find your file, making sure to change the file type to Gedcom / Open

This should import your data

You then need to save the file to FTM format

Hope this helps, i'm sure there may be a FTMv6 user who can help you as well.

Thankyou for those instructions I don't know how I did it but it worked all of a sudden I could open ftm and all the names were there..........

You treated yourself to FTM version 6?  Do you mean FTM 2006?

FTM version 6.0 was released back around 2001.
