Many thanks in advance

Hi Patrish,

Thanks for your reply.  I am unsure if this is him, as my George Heslop was not married until 1851.  Is there a site where I could try a get this info myself without costing me a fortune???

Hi Maggie,

I subscribe to Ancestry but don't know where else other than that but someone  on here is bound to.

There is another one the right age but down as  born Scotland,   a Blacksmith aged 28. no other family members, living Northumberland.

Hi Patrish

I have George on the 1851 census at Chester le Street, with Ann Hall, head,un, 52, Cester le Street.
George Heslop, Lodger, widower, 38, Labourer, Chester le Street.

HO107/2394
Folio: 162
Page: 3

In 1851 Sept Quarter he was married to Dorothy Storey
Volume: 5 Page 342.

Is it possible that he was married twice??

Hi Maggie,

Quite possible,  this one looks interesting

Marriage of George Heslop June quarter 1839 Chester le Street Vol 24 - p 25,  on the same page are Elizabeth Crawford and Eleanor Wilkinson.

This could tie in the the one I found in Ovington in 1841 as I cant seem to find any of them in 51, not even the chidren. ???

will have a look at the death records.

Patrish.

Well Maggie,

Still struggling with this one, searched death records from 1840 to 1850, there are numerous Elizabeth Heslops in various parts of Northumberland but none in Chester Le Street itself, what we do not know is if they were still living there, I did find this one however which I thought worth mentioning ELEANOR HESLOP DURHAM DEC QUARTER 1843.

When men were widowed they usually remarried  fairly quickly because of the children but he does not have any in 1851 with him.

I have George and Dorothy in 1861,1871 and 1881, do you need these?

Patrish.

Hi Patrish,

After studing your information that you very kindly sent, it looks like he could well have been wed twice.  Thomas was born in July 1952.  Yet in 1851 George was on the Census as a lodger, widower.  I BET tHOMAS WAS AN UNEXPECTED CHILD!! Perhaps Thomas was the only child of George and Dorothy.  Who was his first wife?  Some many unanswered questions.  I will try and find out more.

Regards
Maggie
