Thanks for the details Maggie, last night I took an very long and hard look at the 1861 census for your family, I simply could not find them, I tried Heslop, Hislop, Heslip but no George b 1826 or Dorothy B 1830 with son Thomas b 1852. I will look again with the information you have supplied see if I fare any better..

Well Maggie this is the best that I can come up with, I am not saying that these are yours though. :-\ :-\

1841 HO107/313/4/F37/P5

High Hatwell, Easington, Co. Durham

William Heslop 60 Ag. Lab
Jane Heslop 60
George Heslop 15

I cant find George single anywhere in 1851, if the above one is him most likely both parents are deceased.

This again is along shot some things don't fit but then that not unusual as I said before.

1861 RG9/3756/F9/P12

Easington Lane, Hetton Le Hole

George Heslop h m 35 a Nailer B Durham
Dorothy wife 26 b Tunstall, Durham
Robert son 7
Catherine dau 5
Mary Ann dau 3
George son  5 months.

1861 RG9/3696/F31/P21

Sedgefield

Robert Dakers h m 57 Grocer and Tallow chandler B Sedgefield
Mary wife 62
Robert son 23 Tallow Chandler
Mary dau 25 Grocer
THOMAS HESLOP  11  APPRENTICE TO TALLOW CHANDLER.   b Sedgefield
All places of birth are dittoed under Robert
I think  this Thomas could well be the son of George and Dorothy given the first child there is 7.

Looking on the map Chester le Street, Easington, Hetton Le Hole and Sedgfield are all relatively close together. I don't think I can help anymore, perhaps a new thread.

 Regards Pat
