Without being technical, it's something that a website puts on your computer, so it remembers who you are. So don't delete a Rootschat cookie, because it might forget who you are, and you'll have to log in. But by all means delete others.

Think of them as an aide-memoire for a site you have visited.... they keep a minimum of info about your PC's access to the site, and use it typically to recognise you on later visits

For example, RootsChat will save you basic info, so when you open the site, it reads it, knows who you are and shortcuts a full 'login' procedure.

Dont delete if they are for sites you have as Favourites, you will have to say who you are again.

Some sites give you an option like 'Rememeber Me' ... eg GenesReunited - if you say NO, then no Cookie is saved.

Cookies are something a website puts on your computer to remember who you are. Best to delete but not those on rootschat.

I delete them all the time and I have my Privacy settings at Medium High....doesn't cause a problem.

Mind you I have to log-in at Rootschat nearly every time.....but then some Cookies are 'Trackers' which can do funny things.....Might explain why Erin has so many processes running.

The other evening when I was trying to get my computer to speed up I went to Internet connections/temporary internet files/settings/view files/   When I saw all the stuff there from 4 yrs ago I decided to delete cookies did I do right or am I being stupid ??

Also in the same area when in view objects I noticed a file which was 9F 1C 11AA-197B which had the status damaged wording beside it. Does this mean any thing to any one ??
