« on: Saturday 19 August 06 14:44 BST (UK) »
looking for details about my forefatheress - Georgina Lawrie - who is believed to have married - William Stewart - on 12/01/1874 at
Brechin, Angus, Scotland. Georgina was born in 1858 at Belhelvie, Aberdeen.

Hoping that someone has access to the old parish registers or the censuses which might find them.

please help if you can - cheers - Johnathan

Hi Johnathan

The Marriage record can be viewed and downloaded or printed off from the Scotlands People website for a small fee.  It is found just as you describe in 1874.  I'm not certain where you got your birth details but if the age stated at marriage is correct.....and the death age of her mother is correct then Georgina could not have been born in 1858.  You will find the death of her mother in 1878 Brechin but will need to use wildcards to pick up a variant spelling of her maiden name that is given on the Marriage certificate of Georgina.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi folks

Well that explains that then!  The parents on the marriage in 1874 do not match the parents on the birth stated above.  Looks like there are 2 Georgina's happening here....but which one is yours?

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean and Luc,

My Georgina seems to be the same as luc's as her parents were George and Clemintina Lawrie of Aberdeen !

I was given these marriage details by someone in the family who found it amongst notes my grandfather s papers when he was trying to trace the Lawrie family - and it is very difficult trying to access scottish details from here in Greece - as access to the scottish records is only via credit cards - that is why i hope to find some kind people to help me locate Georgina and her sister - Elizabeth (born 11/mar/1867 aberdeen).

Thanking you for being so helpful - it is kindness
cheers - Johnathan.

Hi Johnathan,
All very puzzling  ???  The best I can offer is this:

Geo. Lawrie m. Clementina Paterson, 31 May 1853 Strichen, Aberdeenshire.  She was born 13 Aug 1831 Longside, Aberdeen, and died there in 1916.  Her parents were William Paterson & Anne Dalgarno.
George and Clementina's family:
Alexander, 30 Jun 1855 Ellon.
Georgina, 9 Jan 1858 Belhelvie.
John, 20 Apr 1860 Belhelvie.
James, 7 May 1862 Belhelvie.
Jane, 19 Oct 1864 Ellon.
Elizabeth, 11 Mar 1867 Savoch.
William George, 20 May 1869 Savoch.
George, 22 May 1871 Savoch.
Helen Gray, 18 Aug 1873 Savoch.

William Stewart and Georgina had at least two children:
Gordon Robson, 28 Aug 1872 Brechin.
James Cooper, 17 Nov 1874 Brechin.

If Georgina was born in 1858, she would have been only 14 when Gordon Robson was born  ???
I'll give it some more thought and let you know if I can reconcile this puzzler.

Bervonian.

Hi Johnathan,

I agree totally with Bervonian  - I dont think the Georgina Lawrie daughter of George and Clementina - could have married William Stewart - I would suggest that you try and find a marriage or death for this Georgina - as her parents names will be on the scottish marriage certificate or death certificate.

I have the same info about George and Clemintina Lawrie's family except I have two more children Mary Ann born 1849 out of wedlock) and Ann their first child born 1853.

Good luck to your reseach - you have come to the right place for help - Rootschat users are great!

regards-luc.

Hi to Bervonian and luc

Firstly thank you for the lawrie family details I only had a few of the  children, so thank you very much for sharing that with me.

I think you must both be right and I should try to find a marriage and death for Georgina Lawrie born to George and Clementina

and the same for her sisters and brothers

thanks for you advise and kind help. cheers  Johnathan.

Hi there...

I don't know if this will be of interest to you or not.....I have an Elizabeth Lowrie b. 6 Oct 1871 at Glendermot, Londonderry, Northern Ireland who married a Cuthbert Carr...at St Columbus Cathederal in Londonderry in 1896...now here is the kicker...she named her first born daughter Clementine...b. 21 Jan 1897 in Londonderry...This name was not a common one in Ireland at the time.....Elizabeth is the daughter of a James Lowrie and a Mary Stewart...I have no other details other than she had another daughter Mary Stewart Carr b. 01 Jun 1901, and believe Elizabeth died prior to 1909 as Cuthbert then married into my family..... Maybe Elizabeth's father in one of yours????

All the Best
