Nant R.d Lodge
« on: Tuesday 22 August 06 12:56 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of a way i could find out who was living in 5 Nant R.d in 1931?
My brother was born there and i assume my mother was staying with her relatives for John's birth. I have a photo with the words "to uncle and auntie love Hilda" written on it & addressed to 5 Nant R.d. The photo was obviously taken years before 1931 but i have also come across a Nant address written in an 1881 Wales census. This census has a family that may be my G aunt Sarah Evans bc1857 She is in the census as Sarah Jones along with husband John and 3 children.

I have sent for a marriage cert for Sarah & John but the coincidences all seem to add up to them being my relatives.

I know that part of Nant R.d was demolished because of a 'slide' at Lodge steelworks and No.5 no longer exists but i am very keen to find out more about No.5 and its occupants. It's possible also of course that some of my family were living in other houses in Nant R.d also over time.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks Poli.

The electoral registers should be able to help.

If you get in touch with the local reference library they should be able to look it up for you, failing that the county archives.

Hi D ap D

I hope to visit that area in a few weeks time to do some 'follow ups' and intend going to the Denbighshire record office in Ruthin.

Is that the place you mean for finding out who lived at No. 5 and when? Poli.

yes, if you ask for the 1931 electoral register, look up the address, and it will tell you the names of ther persons living there who were entitled to vote, i.e. over 21

Thanks norma_jess for the info.

I'm looking forward to seeing Lodge and Nant r.d for myself even if No.5 is no longer there!

A visit to Pwllglas is a must also. Last there about 10/11 years ago well before my 'family' interest began. We took my mother back to see her parents house and the chapel across the road from the house where her father had been a deacon. I took some photos of a family headstone then.
Just hope the house and chapel remain.  Poli.

Sorry to disappoint you but Nant Road no longer exists all that remains of the Lodge is the road from Brynteg called Broughton Road and this runs nearly the length of the village where it suddenly becomes Kent Road which has a unadopted road leading off it called Cefn Road.  The side which had Nant Road has just recently been landscaped, and is now grass and hopefully in the not to distant future trees, as part off the regeneration off the Brymbo steelworks. O'h norma_jess, from all that i'd read about Lodge and Nant R'd on 'the net', [which wasn't a great deal.] i had thought that only part of the R'd had gone.

I am really disappointed, but i suppose it's just as well i know before i turn up there expecting to find part of the original row of houses where my relatives once lived.

I feel quite sad too, my own house that i lived in for all my own childhood is now amongst the foundations of a motorway!!

All my landmarks are disappearing!!!
