This is the only RootsChat "quest" I've been involved in and I'll never know what made me click onto this post in the first place ... but I'm so glad I did.  Here are my comments on your comments ...

I don't even know if he was into family history - but I bet he is now!!

This sounds like a great story for the local papers..... for a start!
I've already suggested this via Lynne

I am going to start perusing ebay.
You mean you want another[/b] obsession?

I looked at it today and it was still under a fiver, so surprised it went so high
In fact it went for £101.  But still worth it.  John must have nerves of steel to swoop in at the end like that!

And ending with a quote from Lynne:
JM mailed to say a great big thank-you to everyone who made it possible for him to have such a wonderful family history briefcase.
He kept his cool and won in the last few seconds by putting in £101.10 ! wow a perfect ending, but like he said the BP was at the top of the scale!
Well that is the most exciting thing I have witnessed on e-bay for a long time.
If anyone on RootsChat sees anything else about Blackley I would be pleased to hear from them.

I had just looked and seen that it went for £49 and was amazed that so much went for so little. I thought it had maybe just sold to someone who will sell it all on at a massive profit but after further reading and seeing that John got it I am pleased that the price was low.

It is a pity that the lady selling didn't let him have it for nothing as it is his family but as they usually say, business is business.

Well done to everyone on here for it all together.

... or at least just what she paid for it ...
