Marraige certificate returned to the court?

I am now back from the library after taking note of Marriages in St Hilary in the 1830's. I am only up to 1834 till next week,but so far written at the side of some of the certificates/Banns it says "Returned to the Court" Then the name of the minister. Can anyone explain please ???
