Son: FRANCIS THOMAS LAURY
Already have US Birth Nov 1870, UK Census 1881, Shipping>US 1881, US1900
He would have been born too late for the US 1870 Census.

I think this may be him in 2 other US Census:--

1910 - Cedar Twp, Cherokee Cty, Iowa State
Head: Frances T LAWRY, 39, marr 9 yrs (is 1st marr), b California to English Parents Occ: Farmer - general Farm (Employer), Own Farm with a Mortgage.
Wife: Harriot LAWRY, 41 marr 9 yrs (is 1st marr)-  once for 9 yrs, has never birthed any children. b Iowa of Indiana parents.
Servant: Earl JACOBSEN, 16, single, b Nebraska of Danish father, US Mother, Occ: Farm Laborer Working out (Worker)

1920 - Cedar Twp, Cherokee Cty, Iowa State
Head; Frank T  LAWRY . 49, b California to  English parents, Occ: Farmer - Gen(eral) Farm, Own Account, Owns the Farm.
Wife: Harriet LAWRY 51, b Iowa to Indiana parents.
Daughter: Gladys L(or E) LAWRY, age 3yrs & 11 mth, b Kansas to US born parents.
Servant Rutter L CASTLE (white male), 42, b Iowa to Ohio father, Illinois mother, occ: Farm Laborer

I would hazard a guess and strongly suggest Gladys is adopted.

1930 I can't locate them?

This MAY be his wife's death - but her Birthplace is not matching 1910/1920Census - if indeed the Census are them! And if the Census is correct, perhaps the CANADA birthplace on Death record is in error?
California Death Index, 1940-1997 Record
Name:LAWRY, Harriet Hunter
Sex: (F)
Birth Date:24 Aug 1866 , Canada
Death Date:19 Mar 1946 , Alameda
Mother's Maiden Name:MACKAY
Father's Surname:HUNTER

If she was Canadian, it may explain why I can't find them 1930  ??? Unless I've plain missed them, perhaps could be in Canada on a visit?

Cheers

Hi KA & Daisy!
OH - Great Daisy! I just couldn't for the life of me see 'em in 1930- I even tried without a surname  :P

Son: EDWARD C LAURY
Already have him UK Census 1881, and US1900, US1910:

I think this may be him in later US Census:

1920 - Topeka Twp - Ward 3, Shawnee Cty, Kansas State
1420 Buchanan Street
Head: Edward C LAWRY age 47, marr, b Nevada of English parents, home owned Freehold, Occ: None
Wife: Ella LAWRY age 39, marr, b Nebraska of Massachusetts Father-Michigan mother. Occ: None
Step Dau: Lulu TREGAMBA, age 19, single, b Kansas, Kansas Father-Nebraska mother, Occ: None
StepSon: Marshall TREGAMBA  age 18, single, b Kansas, Kansas Father-.Nebraska mother, Occ: None
StepDau: Grace TREGAMBA,  age 9, b Kansas, Kansas.Father-Nebraska mother

1930 - Topeka City  - Ward 3, Shawnee Cty, Kansas State
Head: Edward C LAURY* 56, b Nevada of English parents, First ever married at age 45. Own Home - value $8000, Occ: Painter for -------?
Wife: Ella LAURY* 49, b Nebraska of Massachusetts Father, Michigan mother. First ever married at age 19.
StepDaughter: Lula TREGEMBA 29, single, b Kansas, Kansas Parents, Occ: B-----keeper for Oil  ------? (doesn't look like Bookeeper)
StepDaughter: Grace TREGEMBA 19. single, b Kansas of Kansas parents. Attends School. No Occ.

Maybe just a coincidence - but those I think are the 2 brothers: Edward C LAWRY in Kansas 1920 with 2 adult unmarried Stepdaughters,  and  Francis T LAWRY in Iowa 1920  who has a toddler Kansas born daughter whom I suspect is adopted.........wonder if it was inter-family?

Cheers

I can't thank you enough for all your help.  It's given me loads to sift through and follow up. And that Kansas b. daughter is intruiging me too Ambly.

I know this is a real long shot, but with the family on the May 1881 arrival in NY is a daughter, Ida Lawry age 6.  Is there an 1890 US census?  If not, then I think she will have been married by 1900 and I've lost her.

And one for Daisypetal.  The NY passenger lists you kindly checked for me.  I have a 'missing' Carlyon who is on the UK 1861 and 1891 census, but missing on the 1871 and 1881.  I have this suspicion he could be paying the states a visit.  It seems the rest of the family were back and forth, so why not him.  John William Carlyon b. 1825 Cornwall.  If he comes to light I'd be grateful for any information.

I'm now going to have a wonderful day putting all this information together.

Kind regards

KA

Hi KA,

Sorry but only bad news today  :(

I can't see a John CARLYON or variant that fits on the passenger lists that I was looking at, and I think the 1890 US census was destroyed by fire  :(

Ooh good, a happier thought, have you seen this website www.castlegarden.org it may be of help  :)
