Daniel, Rebecca, Shon, Griffith THOMAS 1830s Llantrisant
« on: Saturday 26 August 06 10:08 BST (UK) »
Dear Glamorgan Community

I know I am looking for needles in haystacks with the surname Thomas.  I do wonder if someone can help.

I am interested in the family of Daniel (born 1832 Llantrisant), Rebecca (born 1838 Llantrisant), Shon and Griffith who were also born in Llantrisant in the 1830s.

Their parents were  William and Mrs Mary THOMAS.

Daniel and Griffith left for the USA in the 1850s. Griffith settled in Iowa and Daniel in Newark Ohio where he died about 1912.

I believe  Thomases were Methodists but I have no idea which branch - I understand there were English and Welsh speaking congregations.  And I do not know if the done thing was to for husband to follow wife or wife husband.  Daniel Thomas in Newark Ohio did lattely worship in a Congregational church.  Other members of his family in Newark were staunch Methodis.

While I fully appreciated the challenge of the surname...I did cheer up when I read 1838 birth.  If Rebecca's birth was registered...would it have been registered in Llantrisant or in a larger town nearby?

Many thanks for any help.

Nequine

if she was registered, which in the early years of registration isn't guaranteed,
one of the Cardiff entries may be her - Llantrisant came under Cardiff registration district then. You could order them and use parents' names as a check. Have you tried parish records for the baptisms? Glamorgan Family History Society publish booklets of baptisms and will do look-ups for members.
