brionne,hes in the 51st graduated battalion,it was made up of soldiers who were eighteen and a half or younger,when they reached 19 they would be posted to another battalion,he would have been with the 51st at foxhall heath,ipswich,the battalion wasnt formed till 27-10-1917,when he reached eighteen he would have been sent to germany as part of the army of occupation on the rhine,he wouldnt qualify for any medals,the ones you saw could be for service in ww2,mack

I have the book for the 51st Hampshire Regiment in Germany 1919-20s It has photos of all the Battalion, and a lot of the camp.
This unit was made up of soldiers who were 18-19years old in 1919.

After getting nowhere for years this is quite something.
Reckon he was in prison and the number refers to that.
Just looked closely again at a photo in uniform, which shows it was  taken in Ipswich.Found when packing up.
I dont have a scanner to post this unfortunately.

He was not in ww2, lost an eye welding but was a .Bus driver for the troops.
I am moving house shortly which will hold me up too.
