Old Alresford PR's - burials Wheable
« on: Saturday 26 August 06 19:25 BST (UK) »
Hello All

Hoping someone on here has access to copies of the parish registers or can point me in the right direction.

I am looking for a burial for James and Charlotte Wheable after 1821 when their son Stephen was born. They are not on the 1841 census. I think Charlotte may have died December 1/4 1839 (Freebmd).

Thanks in advance

Dawn

Hi Dawn

This is a name that is open to many spellings.  I found two baptisms in Alresford - Stephen in 1821 and William in 1818 ( New Alresford), parents James and Charlotte but the spelling was different in each record.

The most common spelling in Old Alresford seems to be Wheble.  But there is obviously also Wheable, Weeble, Weable, Weebull, Weabull, Wheabull and Wheebull, just to name a few.!

Charlotte does not seem to be recorded in the burial records before 1837 and neither does James, unless he is recorded under a really strange spelling!

Hi Nell

Thanks for the look-up.

Shame they're not there.

I'm fairly new to this Wheable line, it's a female one, and I realised quite early on there were many variations, not necessarily of their own doing. The census enumerators had a good go as did the (foreign) transcribers.

What dates of the pr's do you have access to? and, being cheeky, can I post requests for more look-ups?  ;D

Hi Dawn,

You can always ask for look-ups - it's not cheeky at all.

I can access burials and some baptisms prior to 1837 but marriages are a little more difficult.

William was baptised in New Alresford 27 Dec 1818 (surname recorded as Weable), Stephen in Old Alresford 27 Dec 1821.

Neither seems to have died young.

I've just found a James Wheeble buried aged 77 on 9 Mar 1834 in Old Alresford.  Don't know if he is connected.

Hi Nell

Thanks for replying.

William being baptised 1818 New Alresford - too early for the IGI  ::)

Stephen (1821) is a GGG-grandfather, he married Elizabeth Keane? in 1843 (Freebmd)  and I know of 2 children George (gg-grandfather) 1844 and Ann 1847.

As I said earlier have only just got going on this, don't know how James aged 77 in 1834 fits in just yet if at all.
