1901 Census Look-up, Chester
« on: Sunday 27 August 06 07:34 BST (UK) »
Looking for my great-grandfather in 1901. He was John Orrett, a Tailor, born Chester 1839.
In 1881 and 1891 he was living at 5 Roberts Court, Northgate Row West but an address search in 1901 doesn't produce this address.
I am sure he was still alive in 1901 because:-
a/ His wife, Martha Orrett, who in 1901 was working away from home as a Monthly Nurse, is shown as "Married" and not as "Widow", and
b/ The Marriage Certificate for his daughter's 1902 marriage does not show him as "Deceased" whereas the groom's father is shown as "Deceased", and
c/ He does not appear in the Deaths on cheshirebmd between 1891 and 1901.

Moray - (In Rafford) MacDonald, Laing, Younie.
Orkney - (In Evie.) Robertson, Sinclair, Laird.
Herefordshire - Fox, Graty.
Gloucestershire - Price, Spackman, Bourne, Tugman,   Burroughs, Brassington.
Cheshire - Fox, Orrett.

Hi alastairgm,

I can't see him in 1901, but there is a death on freebmd for John ORRITT, Jun Q 1892 Ormskirk 8b 546 aged 53.  Is this a possible?

Jean

Hello Jean,

Thanks for the suggestion. The age is right so I'll certainly check him out, although I still think he was alive until after 1901 for the reasons stated. Also neither he nor his family has any connection with Ormskirk.
I'll have a look at him, however.
Many thanks,  Alastair
