There is a village called Pembroke in Malta, see http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/mt-46.html

Don't know if that's what it says?

Carol,

Yes it is Pembroke (I'm glad someone else agrees).........just got it a few mins ago from IGI. There is a military barracks there.

I've taken your advice and started a Thread on the 52nd Regiment on the Armed Forces board......already had a great response.

This is super stuff !

That marriage is probably the correct one, although hubby is down as Joseph.
Yesterday we found one indexed on the GRO site as Mary ...it should have been Harry  ::)

Another suggestion for you. ;) Post a request on Hants/Surrey board to see if anyone has access to Farnham parish regs for 1866.I have a feeling that the boys born to Mary could possibly have been illegitimate and you might find that she was born a Fagg too.

You never know in this game.

Carol,

Any thoughts on your comment ? Mary being born a Fagg ? Two illegitimate sons ?

No joy on the Surrey board as yet ! They are unable to look, as no idea which Parish !!!

Welcome any advice or thoughts.

Thanks

Simon

Simon

The only way you would tell for certain would be to buy one of the boys birth certs and it would tell you fathers name(if you're lucky!) and mums maiden name.

Free BMD has Joseph R FAGG being born in Farnham in the June 1/4 of 1866.
Volume 2a page 79 - if you wanted to order his cert.

Have had no luck finding mum in an earlier census yet- but maybe her family travelled abroad with the navy or army too?

As yet we cannot be 100% sure what her name was.

On Genuki it says Farnham was on the Surrey/Hampshire boarders at the time.  Maybe you should also post on the Hants board then Simon.

Not sure where Aldershot comes in Wendi? Other than the census I suppose.
I was going by the registration place of their births.

Don't think we've found a marriage cert yet have we? Or have I lost the plot today  ;D

Carol and wendi,

(I clearly have 2 superstar Genealogy experts on the case !!!)

Many thanks for your searching so far - greatly appreciated.

Interesting name Fagg : if she is my GGG Grandmother, now the maiden name of her GG Grand Daughter (my mother), was........ASH !

So................Fagg Ash !

Couldn't make it up could you !!!
