Greenock parish records and cemeteries
« on: Monday 28 August 06 11:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help me with my brick wall:

I am trying to verify alot of what I have extrapolated for my ancestor William Nicholson Herron/Heron.

He was born in 1817 in Gorbals to John Heron and Barbara Nicholson. IGI
I then found 3 marriages for him on the IGI,
1. in Glasgow in 1840 to Agnes Bold?,
2. in Greenock East Parish in 1850 to Margaret Glen
3. in Greenock East Parish in 1851 to Ann Taylor.

Based on census records and marriages he had 4 daughters between 1841 and 1851, Mary, Margaret Somervil and Emily/Amelia with the first wife and Barbara with the 2nd wife. I cannot find these records anywhere, I have look of the Scottish GRO many times and there doesn't seem to be anything on the IGI either. Does anybody know of a way I can find records for these births?

I am also trying to find the deaths/burials of the first 2 wives in Greenock? Both of these wives died pre-1854 so I cannot find any records of their deaths.

I am fairly certain this all occured in Greencock based on trade directory entries for William and the said birthplacecs for the daughters on their death/marriages. The family seemed to move to Glasgow between the third marriage and 1861.

Thanks for reading, and for any assistance you may provide

Jim,
Yes I did have these but thankyou anyway.

I have also found a marriage in 1806 in Edinborough, Midlothian so there are probably some older children born elsewhere I haven't found.  I think they also had another John as William had a brother John, nearly 10 years younger living with his in numerous censuses. I couldn't find John and Barbara in the 1841 census so I am unsure if they stayed in Lanark, around Glasgow or if they had more children than just a second John.

In 1851 I found Barbara living with son John and grandaughter Emily (Will's sick daughter) in Barony, Lanark. John must have died before 1851 but I do not have a record of this. Barbara unfortunately died before 1855 so I could not find a death record for her either. The fathers name I got from John and William's death certificates.

This family just seems to be one big pile of dead ends!
