COTTRELL Family - Kelsterton Cottage/ Farmyard. Northop. Wales
« on: Monday 28 August 06 14:29 BST (UK) »
If any one could help me I am looking for any information/photo's on Kelsterton Cottage/ Farmyard. In the 1881 census my family the COTTRELL's are living there and my g.g Grandmother Annie Eliza Cottrell was born there in 1882. In 1881 Kelsterton Cottage is next to Kelsterton Hall- the Magistrate for the County of Flint was living there. On the other side of the cottage there is Kelsterton Lodge. The Cottrell's were originally from Neston, Wirral, Cheshire, They lived at Kelsterton Cottage for about 5 years then moved back to the Wirral. Does any one know if Kelsterton Cottage/farmyard is still there?

Any information will be very much appreciated.

Thank you
Marc

I don't know if it's the same place but Kelsterton Farm still exsists.

Hi Marc,
I don't know about Kelsterton Cottage but the Lodge, Kelsterton Hall and Kelsterton Farm are  still there.
There is a book 'Kelsterton Hall and the Bates Family'
by local historian Vic Williams, well worth the 2 or 3 pounds it costs.
With  William Cottrell being a Farm Labourer and living in Kelsterton Cottage chances are he worked for the Bates Family(Magistrate of the county of Flint.)

When I can get in touch with Vic I'll ask if he knows of Kelsterton Cottage.

I found these Baptisms.
June 8 1879. Martha Eleanor D/O William & Ellen Cottrell. Abode,Kelsterton. Occ, Labourer.
Jan 2 1881 Emma. D/O William & Ellin Cotteril. Kelsterton. Labourer.
May 17 1882. Annie Eliza. D/O William & Ellen Cottrell. Kelsterton. Labourer.

Paul.

Hiya Paul .

Thank you for all your help. It has really been really usefull. Sorry about this but i have got a question to ask you. Do you know where the nearest burial place is around the area of Kelsteron Hall ect as one of William and Ellen's children, Joseph Cottrell died when he was 7 in Wales and he is not buried in the family grave in Thornton Hough , Wirral. Do you know if he would have his own grave.

thank you again.

Marc :)

I believe the parich church for the area is Ss. Eurgain & Peter which is in Northop.  If the family were C of E it might be worth checking there.

Hi Marc,
Kelsterton is Connah's Quay and the parish church is St Marks. Connah's Quay also has a Cemetery where he could be buried.
Do you know the year he died?

Next time you visit your gran, if you cross the River Dee on the new bridge take the exit for Connah's Quay the first buildings you come to are Kelsterton Farm. Hall and Lodge.

Paul.
