Fawcett/Faucit in Stirling, Stirlingshire
« on: Tuesday 29 August 06 02:39 BST (UK) »
I have hit a brick wall for this one family. If anyone could help, I would be extremely grateful.

This is what I have found:
Solomon Fawcett (also spelt Faucit) married Catherine Robertson 1800 in Stirling, Stirlingshire. They then had at least 3 children, Jean in 1803, Margaret in 1808 and Catherine circa 1819. I am sure there are more children but cannot find them on the IGI or on Scotlands people website. I can't even find verification of Catherine's birth in 1819.

I'm not sure when Solomon died (was before 1841). The mother Catherine Fawcett was found on the censuses with her daughter Catherine in 1841 and 1851 and died between 1851 and 1861. I'm not sure what happenned to any other children Solomon and Catherine had.

I have traced Catherine Robertson's family back but have found no real records of Solomon's birth, parents or siblings.

I would LOVE some help with this!

Hi Kathox,

I recently found a gavestone in Camelon Cemetery in Falkirk for a Fawcett family (much more recent than the one's you're looking for) They may of course be no relation to 'yours' whatsoever but it's such an unusual name I thought I'd post the details from the inscription just in case at some future date, you can connect to them.

In loving memory JAMES FAWCETT dearly beloved husband Sarah Kerr
Died 2nd January 1923 aged 71 years
Also their daughters SARAH ANN died 7th October 1896 aged 12 years
SARAH ANN died 18th September 1906 aged 8 years
ETHEL died 8th May 1907 aged 13 years
Their son JOHN ALBERT killed in action in France 28th September 1918 aged 23 years
Also the above SARAH KERR died 5th February 1952 aged 89 years

If you wan't a copy of the photo, send me a PM with your personal e-mail.

Hi Kathox,

I know this thread is old, but I've just come across it when doing a general web search for info about my husband's g-g-g-g-grandfather Solomon Fawcett.

It seems he was from North Yorkshire. According to the record of his marriage to Catherine Robertson (my husband's g-g-g-g-gradmother), Solomon was a private in the North York Militia. It seems that Fawcett is a fairly popular surname in parts of North Yorkshire. However, like you, I've not been able to find much info!

Wondering if you've had any further luck since your above post in 2006? I'd be keen to also know what you've found on his wife Catherine's family.

My link is through their daughter Catherine b. ca. 1819.

Jeannie

Hi Jeannie,

Welcome to Rootschat!  :)

If you click on Kathox's user name, that'll take you to the profile page and you'll see that 'Kathox' hasn't been on Rootschat since October 2006.

Why not post some of your known details and someone might come along and try and help out.

Good Luck.

Anne

I'm still here, just not actively searching atm as I have a 1 year old now.

I am descended through the same woman (Catherine c1819), actually through her son Edward William b1845.  I found a bunch of potential wives in Yorkshire, the Helmsley are but noting I feel confident enough to put into my database.
PM me if you want to talk more about this family.
