Also, with regards to missing years, there are places, and I have come across quite a few, where the pages have been torn out of the registers, defaced, or are just unreadable by age and the forces of time.
And why is it, that the key person you are searching for always seems to have been on one of those pages.... :)

It's verrrrrry strange, but I find quite a lot of them are during the not so Civil War. Perhaps at the Restoration there were things that needed to be covered up, like........No WE didn't marry into that family....they were Puritains :D

Oh the Civil war was a real prob - some records were kept covertly and entered later. That period is a minefield  ::) ::) ::)

Seems to be off the track now are you roots chat aristocrats etc just trying to notch up as many stars as possible. I have got back to about 1750 using the internet but my favourite bit is joining the census's together.

Lighter side doesn't notch up stars  ;)

I started family history before the information was on the internet.  Got back to 1667 by visiting record offices in a number of counties.  The internet is an invaluable resource these days but there is nothing quite like looking at and handling the actual records.
