Baptism look-up please Sophia HOWELL 1796 Penzance
« on: Wednesday 30 August 06 00:21 BST (UK) »
Looking for her baptism, but  this baptism request is a real long shot.

Working back through the censuses Sophia is born around 1796.

By 1841 John Sherry is married to a Sophia and living in Marylebone. The census indicates he is from Ireland, she is not born in the county.

By 1851 the census shows her to be from Cornwall and 1861 Penzance.

By 1841 they have had children and the only possible marriage I can find is 7th August 1820 St Martins in th Field where her surname is shown as Howell. I've checked th register at the LMA but no fathers details are shown and the 'professional' witnesses are the same for every entry on the page.

Have checked the IGI for batisms and there's nothing and online parish offers but I don't know which parish.

At the end of the day though her surname may not be Howell and I'll be completely stumped.

I hope someone can help or point me in another direction for a marriage.

Thanks in advance.

Dawn

Hi KernishKim

No I hadn't because its transcribed SOPIHA!!  ;D

have got used to Geroge, Goerge, Greoge etc, didn't think about alternatives and also its not Penzance.

Still no nearer to knowing whether she's mine though, no siblings shown unless you count the ones in Kent and Suffolk and no marriage for her parents.

How unusual is Charity and is it a Quaker name?

I'll make a note of this and tuck it away as a possible, unless something else turns up.

Thanks again

Dawn
