1841 census - Ref Provided.
« on: Wednesday 30 August 06 22:53 BST (UK) »
Hello all

Does anyone have access to the 1841 census?

I am trying to read the entries for  both 'William' s  from the following

HO107/676 Book 1 Folio 20 Page 32  No 1 Vere Street Marylebone

one is 24, the other is 19. Can't decipher their occupations or counties of birth.

Hope someone can help.

Hi Patrish

There are no surnames!!

just 2 Williams among other people without surnames on the right side of the image. I presume some could be 'dittos'

Hope you've got good eyesight  ;D

On second look,

William 19 could be a Plasterer,(same occupation as the person on the top of that page). born in the  county.

Thanks for that, woollen (or other) draper looks possible

I thought William aged 19 (5 lines under William 24) could have been a servant as there is a 'do' on this line and the one above but I'm not sure. And I think he's  'Not of the county'.

That's why I was asking for other opinions.

And are there any surnames?

Anybody else want to have a go?

Sorry Dawn,  I must be going boggle eyed it is NOT born in the county, was reading the above line. :-[ :-[

William 25 looks to be Underwood and William 19 could be Sheldon. I could try looking on the 51 for them as I have the disk set?

Hi Patrish

Don't worry about the 1851 but thanks for your help.

The second William aged 19 is me clutching at straws. I posted a message about this William a few days ago and hadn't got a reply.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,177763.0.html

I've found  William Shury in 1851 but if he's mine he was baptised in 1822 as William Sherry. William Shury or Sherry doesn't turn up in the 1841 but this other William did, right age, right area, but he was born in the county (his father was Irish though).

Will just have to keep this one on the back burner, my elusive William may not be found.
