Can anyone identifiy this country house?
« on: Thursday 31 August 06 16:46 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone

Can anyone help with this? I was returning home to Cheshire yesterday by coach and caught sight from the motorway (either the M1 or M25) of a large imposing Georgian country house.  I think it might have been derelict.  I noticed sign posts for Waltham Abbey (road 121) and Lee Valley Park south bound.

Does this sound familiar to any Essex historians out there?

That will be Copped Hall, it was destroyed by fire in may 1917.

Hi Elmo/Clincher

Thanks very much for this - my curiosity has now been satisfied.  It's really great to see that the place is being cared for.  I wonder if it will ever be mentioned in a future series of the BB2 program Restoration? I really think it should.

Thanks again - Jayson
