1861 census lookup please WATSON
« on: Friday 01 September 06 01:19 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

Am hoping someone can find
John WATSON born about 1803 Harleton, Cambs and wife
Mariann/MaryAnn chr 1814 Oakington, Cambs.

In 1851 they were in Oakington and had a son Jonathon born about 1836ish.

Thanks in advance,
Lilygirl.

Lilygirl,
What was the family name of Mary-Ann, baptised 1814 in Oakington?  And was the John WATSON you're also asking about the same individual you PM-ed me about re the Chesterton Workhouse?
Hoping to get to the CCRO tomorrow to look them up along with that wedding you wanted for GEE/HOWLETT in 1822 at St Andrews The Less, Chesterton...

N.B. Sorry, just realised that this was a request for this couple in the 1861 Census...! And also that it was another Rootschatter who asked me about a John WATSON in this area of Cambridge - I must be losing it! Except that I'll be looking GEE/HOWLETT up tomorrow rather belatedly!

Hi Keith,
Did you get to do that lookup yet or haven't you had time. It's fine if you haven't I'm not impatient just didn't want to miss it if you did!

Thanks again
Have a good day

Lilygirl,
Events have rather conspired against me recently, so haven't been near the CCRO, unfortunately.  But, if you have the patience, your query is still in the "pending" tray!

Lilygirl,
I've just had another look at this thread, and you still haven't let me know what the family name of MaryAnn (who married John WATSON) was, so I can look her baptism up in 1814 in Oakington...
Best wishes,
keith

Hi  Keith,

Maryann was Maryann Golding.
I'm curious to find where the marriage was as the IGI just says Cambridge.

Thanks in advance,
Lilygirl.

Thanks for that vital missing clue, Lily!
I'll get onto Miss GOLDING's baptism shortly...And that marriage would have been sometime circa 1835 or so, would it? - I'll see if I can nail it down to one of those many Cambridge parishes if you can give me a specific date.
Best wishes,
keith

Hi again, Lilygirl,
I finally got to the CCRO again after several months absence and had a look for your 1822 GEE/HOWLETT marriage in St Andrews The Less; also in Cambridge for Mary Ann GOLDING and John WATSON.
I'm afraid there was no sign of either...
I also looked for John WATSON's baptism of about 1803 in Harleton, but there was only this series of baptisms to a James WATSON and Charlotte JACKSON, who married on 17-10-1811, botp:
John WATSON, 26-04-1812; James WATSON, 26-09-1813; Henry WATSON 11-06-1815; Charlotte WATSON, 21-04-1816.
Not sure if this is the same John Watson...
And there's a generation of GOLDING's baptised in Oakington to a William and Agnes GOLDING:
Stephen GOLDING, born 13th April, baptised 2nd June 1812
Twins (?) Mary Ann GOLDING and William GOLDING, bapt. 09-10-1814
Another double baptism, perhaps suggesting that the above siblings might not have been twins: Lydia, born 10-03-1816, and Jonathan, born 25-12-1817, both baptised on Christmas day 1818.
David GOLDING, baptised 12-12-1819
Maria GOLDING, baptised 24-02-1822
Newman GOLDING, baptised 22-06-1828 when 4 years old.

Seems as though they didn't rush to get their children baptised...
Would the 1814 Mary Ann baptism be your woman?  Also, from 1818 onwards, father William is described as "farmer"
Very best wishes,
keith

Hi Keith,
Thanks for that.
I'm away at the moment but when I get home will check my info and see what I can come up with.

Thanks again
Lilygirl.
