Davy Bach, Little David Jones b.1906
« on: Friday 01 September 06 07:27 BST (UK) »
After some of you have given me such nice comments on these photos Ive recently posted and encouraged me to post some more I have two more of Davy Bach, my grandmothers brother who was special needs.

He had to wear leg calipers, born 1906 and died by 29 spending most of his life in a wheelchair. Quite sad really as he would have been a great uncle to me had he lived longer.

Anyway the photo of him in his wheelchair on the Marine Walk at Conwy was recently selected for an exhibition in Bodelwyddan Castle called 'Faces of Wales' which includes photos of children from earlier periods and they wanted to show some with disabilities to provide a balance.  This photo is in their school childrens project pack.

Im sure you will agree its a lovely photo of him, I would like to see them in colour as I obviously never met him, he died when my dad was aged about 3.  Traditional Navy uniform for that time and my Nain and her sister were so proud of the photo with him standing.  He must have been propped up somehow.
Good luck with them, for colourizing please if anyone wants a go please, Gareth

My heart goes out to little Davy - Gareth !!

On the other photo with the girls also !!

maybe that chair was a "loaner " not the one he usually used ... I imagine it would have been awkward trying to transport the chairs in those days !! it's bad enough now when they fold up .... let me tell you !!  :)  Wonder if those ladies in the background are nurses ??

Hi Annie, I dont know if he ever had any nurses as I think his mother Grace used to do it all for him, I do know that when his sister Maggie was courting her husband to be Robert taylor took Davy out with them all the time, all over the place, Conwy, Deganwy, Junction etc.  He was well loved and cared for and always talked about with regard as if he was never any trouble for anyone.

I do have another photo of him lying in a tin bath on wheels taken up the side of Plaw Mawr Conwy when they lived in Crown St there its just that as this was in an exhibition recently it would be nice to see it coloured.

Thanks Prue that looks lovely.  Even gor the weeds in green or the sea weed, nice brown on the wicker wheelchair too.

Thanks Trevor the face on that one is difficult to see clearly.
regards Gareth
