Who Did LOUISA DYER Marry? - 'Calling All Descendants'.
« on: Friday 01 September 06 11:41 BST (UK) »
Hello To All RootsChat Members,

I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may be a  descendant of a Louisa DYER - born St. Pancras, in the March Qtr. (Jan/Feb/March) 1900, daughter of Charles and Louisa DYER.

I have only recently found out, after checking the 1901 Census, that she was my Auntie.

Charles and Louisa DYER, may have had other children after 1901 (we will not be able to check this out until after the 1911 Census is released). Charles DYER did have two children by a previous marriage (Charles and Elizabeth).

Hi Brian,
You could start looking http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx for free I think? from 1916 onwards shouldn't take too long and might be in same area if you are lucky. Could have a look on  http://www.GenesReunited.co.uk and see if she is there!

Hello Irret,

Thank you for trying to help by suggesting 'Ancestry' and 'GenesReunited', but we have learnt by previous experience that these two sites are time wasting, as they are only out for your money, by offering free trials once you have signed up for membership.

Hello Irret,

Yes I did follow your link this evening but I was getting messed around, by the site.  I will give it another go, and I will let you know how things turn out.

It is great that you had success in finding your grandmother's marriage.

Thanks

Hi
I agree with Inet that in these cases often it is simply a case of looking through the marriage registers for 'possibles' and then narrowing it down. This used to be a case of going up to London to the FRC. But as she (or he?) says, the indexes are currently free to view on Ancestry, which is such a boon to Family History researchers.

To start you off I loked through a few quarters, but to my surprise found there were quite a few Louisa Dyer's, (at least one per quarter on average) so this method will not work in this case.

Do you know the deaths of her parents Charles and Louisa? If so, and if they left wills, then the wills are likely to list all their children, and depending on when they made then, they could well give the married names of any daughters.

Hello 'Irret' and 'Lizdb',

I would like to say thank you to you both, for your suggestions.

We had another go at searching on Ancestry.co.uk Indexes for Births/Deaths/Marriages. and yes this is free.

We have found the death date of my Grandmother in 1951, and we will now proceed to track down a 'Will'.

Thanks again for your help.
