Chapel of Ease

Hello. My grandparents(Edward Sheerin and Bridget Flynn) married in the Chapel at Raheen, 1907.
I am reading John Kearney's book on the area and he mentions a 'Chapel of ease'
Does anyone know what this means?

Hiya Barbara,

May I ask what Search engine you use I find Google is excellent but there are many others available. I used Google to search for Chapel of Ease.  Both the New Catholic Dictionary and Wikipedia give a detailed definition but a shorter definition is given by the Free Dictionary online "A chapel or dependent church built for the ease or an accommodation of an increasing parish, or for parishioners who live at a distance from the principal church."

Thank you. It's a bit silly but I didn't think of Googling it. It sounds more interesting than its actual meaning.
