Help please with Tythegston
« on: Sunday 03 September 06 02:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am new to research in Wales and am researching from Australia.

I have an Evan Rees born about 1829 in Mynyddcynffig and discovered via Genuki that this translates to Kenfig Hill and is now Tythegston.

Can you please tell me if this is correct and also if I should be searching in Glamorganshire?

thanks Kali

Are they two separate places?  or is Tythegston the Parish for Kenfig Hill?

Sorry to be so vague, but as I said this is my first foray into Wales and I want to begin hunting the various census records so will need to understand where I am searching.

Hi, if you google search 'Genuki' with the place name you are looking for, it can often give you good info, and more understanding of places in relation to the one you are searching.

Follow this link I think it will help.  This is within Glamorgan, but to locals/people who know the area, it is know as the 'Vale of Glamorgan'. Click on 'nearby places' to see the relation of the area.

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Tythegston/KenfigHill/

Also check the look up offers on the Glamorgan board some people have parish records for the area and maybe able to help you further.

noells, yes they are two seperate place's kenfig is to the west of brigend but almost part of brigend where as tythegston is to the east of brigend in the vale proper, the best bet is to take stallc's advise and have a look on genuki. all the very best, kali.
