1891 census or earlier pls
« on: Sunday 03 September 06 10:50 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,

I am looking for any census prior to 1901 for:

Thomas Storey (b: c. 1865 - Percy Main?)

In 1901 he is with wife and children in Bedlington (married 1894)-
Sussannah/Susan Storey - (b: 1872, Morpeth/Widdrington??)
Their Children in 1901 were:
Christopher 1895
Ann Belle 1898
Maggie 1900

I will probably need to buy their marriage cert. but would like to find some sort of reference to him pre marriage.

Any help really appreciated.

Thanks
Di

Hello Di

I'm guessing that you have that information from an index, not the original image, because there's an additional family member ...

1901 Bedlington Northumberland
RG13/4833 folio 80 page 22

Address: Bank Top
Thomas Storey, head, 35, coal hewer, Percy Main Northd.
Susanna do., wife, 28, Widdrington Northd.
Christopher do., son, 6, Bedlington Northd.
Ann Belle do., daur, 3, Bedlington Northd.
Maggie do., daur, 1, Bedlington Northd.
Robert Urwin, b in law, s, 25, shops foreman, Bedlington Northd.

Unless you knew already, this tells you Susanna's maiden name (Urwin).

Evidently Thomas and Susanna were married within the last ten years, so Thomas ought to be single in 1891 (unless he was previously married).

Oh wow, thank you KerryB.

That certainly looks like them. I obviously wasn't looking properly (or was just too tired at the time??) I thought I looked for Storey with keyword Percy Main  ??? but it was some months ago!

Also looks like I may be able to find William Storey if the birth place is consistant at Coble Pend. I must look that one up on a map!

Thanks also Dave, You are quite correct. Susannah's surname was Urwin (believed to be the daughter of Robert Urwin and Margaret Gilmore)

Really appreciate your help

Thanks a lot

Di

Just in case you don't have it I found the 1861 for William and Jane

RG9 3839 1834
Living in Chirdon, 146 Low Row

William Storey, 26, Coal Trimmer, born Percy Main so is Coble Pend near or part of Percy Main
Jane Storey, 24 born Newcastle
William 5, scholar born Willingham Cherry

Thanks Kerry,

I can't even find Percy Main on my map so don't know if it's anywhere near Coble Pend (which is also missing from my map  ::) ) Definitely time to invest in a better map  ;)

Now that you have pointed me in the right direction, I will see what I can find re this whole family (and learn a lot about northern England at the same time  ;D)

Thanks

Regards
Di
