That's a great idea in essence, KathyM.

Trouble is, with a work in progress like family history, at what stage do you decide that you can do as you suggest, which means: (a) a big job organising all your bits and pieces, and (b) does this mean you just go with what you know now, rather than all the stuff you may find out in the future!

If one only knew when one was going to depart this mortal coil!!! ??

As a comittee member of our family history group.....we would be delighted to receive anything - at whatever stage......

A while ago, a long standing member who had done tons of research & even had a wonderful website, sadly passed away - his web site just 'disappeared' and I assume the family put his 'stuff' in boxes in an attic/garage....or a skip......what a waste.

If we got a box of papers/notes/photos....we would gladly archive them - whatever stage they were at !

Also - a group in Norfolk actually collect members trees.....these are filed and can be accessed by other members...

On my family history programme I have so many 'unknown's' that they all now have a number to differentiate them (I couldn't think, being somewhat thick, why at first I had so many people married to the same person) ... so now they are 'unknown 1',  'unknown 2' and so on ...

I suspect in a few hundred years time, we'll also be an 'unknown' ... if someone bothers to take up this hobby ... for don't hobbies come and go ?  Who collects stamps these days, for e.g. ... or does embroidery ?

Yes, putting the lot into some external archive is a very good idea ... I only wish great grandaddy had deposited the family photos (and also the family money !)

But I do like the idea of being 'Chosen' ... I'm trying to interest my grand-daughter ...

Mmmmm !  Got me there !  In recent times my family have settled in Yorkshire - but came here from all over the place -

Maybe we should set up a National/International genealogy bank !
