American relative - help needed
« on: Monday 04 September 06 09:25 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help or advise me as to how to pass this brickwall. I am seeking the birth and marriage of Charles Foster Bn c1846 in Savannah, he was a seaman whose wife was Louisa Ann bn c1853 in Cardiff. In 1881 they were resident in Cardiff with two children, John, bn 1880 in Cardiff and Charles Francis born 1874 at sea.

I have reached this point and have been unable to get any further, any help would be greatly appreciated

The birth certificate of the younger son would give you Louisa's maiden name; you should probably look for marriages on both sides of the Atlantic.  Also, how sure are you that both the children belong to Louisa?

Hi jo,

Thank you for the reply, I must admit I had not thought that both children might not be Louisa's, I had infact done what i am forever telling others not to do and 'assumed' that they were both her kids. It's another line to follow
Thanks again

The birth of Charles is early and you may not find a birth record.  Here are some Savanah GA links. You must remeber the Civil War was not kind to the SOuth and much of the area was burned with Sherman's March to the Sea. I belive much of the CIty of Savanah was burned in the 1860's.

You best move may be to find a marriage record. I would suppose in teh UK.
