Help please with Maiden Name
« on: Tuesday 05 September 06 10:48 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am looking for the maiden name of Olive (born 1826 Neath) who married a William Demery in Neath in 1868. William was born in 1825.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

First thing to try:
Find the marriage in the gro indexes and see if Olive's name is shown on the same page.

Next stage (if first doesn't help)
as a guest of ancestry, look in 1851/1861 census for an Olive of the right age b Neath. Note the surnames and then MANUALLY search on the right marriage qtr to see if "Olive X" appears on the same page and district as Wm Demery

According to censuses, they were married considerable earlier than 1868...  They already have a 9 yr-old child in 1861.  ???

No marriage showing on FreeBMD.

Sorry all it was Elizabeth that married in 1868.

William and Olive married circa 1848/50.

In 1861 they lived at Cadoxton, Neath.
William died pre 1881 as census shows Olive living as widow with 2 youngest sons William & John.

As an aside - it seems most Demerys worked in the copper & Tin industries. Does anyone know of source material I can view to see what their jobs entailed?

Hi Rich

You could obtain Elizabeth's birth cert. which hopefully would have her mothers maiden name on it

Qtr to Sept 1849 Neath Volume 26 Page 467

If it were me, I'd apply for it via Neath & Port Talbot, 119, London Road, Neath SA11 1HL and ask them to check for a wedding at the same time  ;D
