sons computer problem

Hi all, my sons computer won't shut down,click on" turn computer off"  fine, click on the box in the middle of the screen"turn off" ,fine   then it freezes,does anyone know what is causing this? and how to put it right...G

Does it do it every time?  Our computer does this occasionally and I'm afraid I normally turn it off at the mains and hope for the best.  It has always started up OK next time we want to use it although it is always a good idea to do a disk tidy up afterwards to get rid of undeleted tmp Windows files.

I sometimes get this, when I do, I press "ctrl+alt+del" (all at same time) to get the task manager, and then go from there, from memory I think it's end task for everything... that does the trick
I think I was told not to just  switch off...

HI Newbie,I tried doing that several times,but the task manager ,did'nt come up,so I don't think it is because programmes are running...g

when mine does that, sometimes if I click the mouse that'll bring it back to earth, -  mine sounds like it's gone off somewhere else doing its own thing!!
