Which cemetery
« on: Friday 08 September 06 14:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone tell me when Trealaw cemetery opened, and which other cemeteries are nearby.
I am trying to locate family burials, but not sure as to where to look.

Many Thanks

Llandaff has its own fairly substantial cemetery near the cathedral. But back in the 19th century only the gentry would have been buried there (immediately alongside the cathedral) and others would probably have gone to Cathays, the biggest in Cardiff.

Not as far as I know. It's mostly on a computer database, with some gaps, but presumably only accessible via the council. If you check out Cathays on the Glamorgan Record Office list (accessible via the genuki link in an earlier post), it will give you contact details, cost, etc.

Thanks, redspookhunter, for that link to the info on guided walks around Cathays Cemetery. Having lived at one time or other on both sides of the cemetery, I'd often walked through it, but never really taken much notice of anything. This afternoon, armed with the map off the site you linked to, I've had an enjoyable stroll in the sun and found things I never knew were there. None of my ancestors, but you can't have everything!
