What uniform?
« on: Saturday 09 September 06 02:58 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to identify this chap (may be a Gt Gt Uncle Adams) so knowing the uniform and an approximate date might help.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jane

I agree he's wearing ww1 war & victory medals. If the other medal was a OBE, MBE or decoration of any kind it would be worn before the other two, not after.

If it wasn't for the fact he's a junior officer, I'd immediately suggest the 3rd one is a naval long service & good conduct medal (although officers didn't receive the medal). Although could it still be an LSGC? Possibly if he was commissioned from the ranks.

Looking at the photo again, he's not a youngster.
Just a thought.

Hi all
I will go for the Royal Naval Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, the ribbon is plain dark blue with white edges,

As for your GG/U he may have been a ex ranker then got a commission, His rank on the uniform may be Gunner Lieutenant?

If you go to the National Archives internet site, & go to documents online, you can but in his name in the part for (Royal Naval Seamen) you may get a hit on his name.

Don't know about the medals but it appears that he has his medal bar underneath the ribbons.

Oh yes old rowley, you can just see it sticking out on the left hand side, why do you think that would be?  off to a slap up dinner after the photo was taken?

My money is on the 3rd medal being a naval long service & good conduct medal.
