Where should I post?
« on: Monday 11 September 06 00:07 BST (UK) »
Could sks please tell me which board or boards I should use for posting a query about theatrical people.
I have pictures of an actor and actress who played at the Stockport Hippodrome in the 1940s and
a query about a Belfast born actress who was on the stage in London around the turn of the century

Hi,

I'd try "occupations" and also have a look at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden; www.theatremuseum.org.

How about posting the pictures and see if anyone can name them?

Christopher,

Definitely occupations board.  Can I ask that you are careful about what information you post about possibly living and or recently deceased people.

If the information is freely available in the public domain and in relation to the actor's career then that is ok.  But personal information that may risk upseting or revealing living relatives is not.

Thanks,
Pam

I have no information I can post other than the pictures. Well I know the two people visited my grandmother and aunt in the mid 1940s which was sixty years ago. My grandmother died in the early 1960s and my aunt in 1970. Do you think that would offend anyone Pam? I doubt that those pieces of information would have been freely available in the public domain. Well the death notices were published in the Barnstaple papers probably.

I'd love to know why they visited all those years ago. Did they play in a theatre in Barnstaple? Were my grandmother and aunt avid theatre goers? Did they go backstage to say "Thank You" ?

You never know.

I trust you can use your own judgment and consider if any of you aunt's family would mind finding information posted about her on a public forum.

As a volunteer moderator I am certainly not offering to review every potential post.  But for information, we go by the rule of thumb that people born in the 20th century will possibly have offspring still alive and we need to think of their sensibilities even when discussing the death of said person.

As you have now posted your pictures I presume this matter is closed?
