ALLMOND / SPENCER - Baldon
« on: Tuesday 12 September 06 09:20 BST (UK) »
This is a follow on from an earlier post concerning my GGG Grandmother.   I have a puzzle that I need help with:

I have the marriage certificate for John COBB and Elizabeth Allmond SPENCER.   They married at the parish church of Newington on Jan 5th 1848, John aged 29 Widower and Elizabeth of full age Spinster.    The fathers listed as George COBB and John SPENCER, witnesses to the marriage were John ALLMOND and Lucy COBB.

Here is the puzzle:

In census material, Elizabeth is always shown as born "Baldon".   I have looked at the PR transcripts and whilst there are plenty of ALLMONDs in both Baldons and in fact an Elizabeth of roughly the right date (parents John and Esther) in Toot Baldon, there are no SPENCERs !!

I did wonder whether she was born prior to her parents marriage, but there are children both before and after what I believe to be her baptism, born to this couple.

I am really puzzled and would welcome ideas / assistance to crack this.
