Chapel Records Tonypandy
« on: Tuesday 12 September 06 18:42 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I today received the Death Notice for my G G G Grandmother.
It states in the paper that she was a devoted member of the Ebenezer Chapel, Tonypandy.
I rang the records office to see if they hold the registers for this Chapel, so I can see if any other Family BMD's were held there.
Unfortunately they have none.
Does anyone know where I can get them from...the chapel is no longer in use.
The time period I am interested in is 1910-1950

Many Thanks

Colleen

I was married myself in this chapel in 1987 (divorced now but that's life  :) ) and we had to get a registrar to record the marriage as non comformist ministers aren't allowed to do this themselves as per an Anlican priest. No record of the marriage was taken by the chapel itself, so I suggest that the local registrar, ours was from the Tonypandy office, may be worth a phone call?

Unfortunately it's now not in use but if you'd like me to take a photograph of what it looks like today (my parents still live in Tonypandy) let me know.

Hi Colleen. My grandfather was Rees Jones who died in 1929 was the minister and choirmaster at Ebenezer, Tonypandy for several years during this period. I found out a lot of information about him and the chapel using the National Library of Wales newspaper archives.

Hi Colleen,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am part of a group of artists, craft and trades people that has the pleasure and enormous challange of restoring and maintaing the propery for community use.
From exploring the property and to my knowledge, sadly there were not any documents found in the building however if you send me an email  I can arrange a visit to Ebenezer for you and talk about future projects happening in the chapel. We are hoping to get funding through Welsh heritage grands to showcase local artists whilst exploring the diverse histor of the building.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Nicholas Bailey,
Dir of The Chapel Collective CIC.
