Finally found a Will
« on: Thursday 14 September 06 13:38 BST (UK) »
As there is nobody at home with the slightest interest  ::) , I thought I would tell Rootschatters that I have finally found a will belonging to one of my ancestors  :o , 5xG Grandfather George Hooker, Corn Chandler, Odiham died 1807.

I've been looking on the National Archives for months with no luck, but today I put in the same old info and up pops a reference to a will. When I downloaded it, the names in the will matched my Hooker family.

I'm now going cross-eyed trying to read it, some is easy to read, but the rest is going to take time.

To anyone out there still looking for traces of their family, keep going, it's out there somewhere waiting to be found.

Thanks Newbie and Bearkat for the encouragement.

It's quite rewarding to read ancestors intentions. I just wish I could translate it.
I can make out chunks of text then come across something that is probably vital to it's meaning.

I can't work out if George owned three freehold properties and land or rented them from a landlord, time will tell.

Bearkat, thanks also for the web address, I haven't come across that one before but will take a good look.

Hi Bearkat, that site does look familiar, but I must have looked before I found George as an ancestor and so was unable to link my family to his. I'll bookmark it this time for good measure.  ;D
