The photos of lots of babies are not family photos, but collectable piccies - cartes-de-visite photographs were very popular throughout the Victorian period and as well as the usual family snaps, you could buy collectable ones (a bit like bubble-gum or cigarette cards in the 20th century) of people like the Royal family, actors and actresses, famous paintings, and whimsical ones of pretty girls and flowers, people (usually pretty girls, again  ::) ) in national dress, saucy ones of ladies showing their ankles, etc.

Doesn't really help you at all, but it's useful to know these things!  ;)

Cheers

Thanks for the reply - I guessed they must have been something other than family photos, although wonder why they were kept with them.  There is not anything else in the album that are 'collectables' I guess my Nan must have liked them!

i have seen similar pics ( in fact i have seen this one before ) that where done by newspapers etc, like a beautifull babies competition that are still run nowadays, i don't think they would be relations of your's unless of course your family entered a babies photo in the competition, kali.
