unidentified photos

I have a whole album of photos that were my Nan's and no one knows who are in the photos.  I guess this is probably a silly question but is there anything I can do to find out more?  Some have the name of the photographic studio on them.  They are probably my Nans family that were from Hartland, Devon.

It would be hard to actually identify the people in the photo's but you can get a fairly accurate idea of the date it was taken from the type of mount, clothing, settings, dates of photographer & his business & poses.  If you have the dates of your relatives you might be able to hazard a guess as to who's who.  Here are a couple of sites to help you.  Even if you can't identify the people I can guarantee you'll be totally absorbed

You are not alone. I too have several albums belonging to both sets of grandparents and I even have a few that belonged to my great grandparents. I pull them out periodically and look to see if by chance I have missed any names, dates, places etc.

I have asked my father and one of his cousins to look at the pictures and see if they could identify anybody. It is amazing what additional stories have "been told" based on the pictures.

I try to date my pictures but alas I have my relatives "genes" and forget ...

It is so annoying, like you my Mum has looked through and hasn't a clue!  Mind you I guess I am no better - mine just sit on the PC now!

Well I have pulled a few of them out and have some names on them.  All the local ones have been left without names, and a few of them that were left in Devon have been marked.  They are from 1890's and on I would guess from the info given on the above site.

I do have one strange one with lots of pic of babies, in fact there are two similar, were these something at the time?  I will scan it later.

My great grandmother had a picture similar to the one you have posted with all the babies. I remember asking my grandmother about the picture because of its uniqueness  but she knew absolutely nothing about it.

I will "root through" my pictures and see if I still have it. Maybe a clue or two. Will get back to you if/when I locate the picture.

There may be someone on Rootschat who knows about these types of pictures. Just an idea but why don't you try posting the picture in the "photographic" area of Rootschat.
