Which Parish?
« on: Wednesday 20 September 06 16:27 BST (UK) »
Hi

My husbands 3x gr grandmother Elizabeth nee Baker is listed in the 1841-1901 censuses as being born in Heydon, except for one where she is listed as Thasted.

I know that pre 1974 Heydon was in Essex but is now classed as Cambridgeshire.

I am having trouble finding which parishes these would have come under, and also there is a Haydon listed but not Heydon (which has confused me even more).

I am also putting this on the Essex board as I am hoping that the more people who see it, the bigger chance I have of becoming unconfused.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Half Pint
looking at the Genuki website, Heydon was Essex from 1837 to 1895.Then it came into Cambridgeshire from 1895.

Hi Half Pint
You could always give the records office at Cambridge a ring , they will be able to tell you what records they have for Heydon, they are a good crowd in there and very helpfull. Have been in there a lot of times and always came away with the info I wanted, even if I could not find it myself. Once you know what Cambridge has then you will know who has the records that you want, perhaps Essex.
